In 1978, the Queen’s Park Rangers football team needed a quickly -erected canopy system to keep the playing field dry in the London weather and approached the Ove Arup light-
weight structure laboratory for a solution. Perhaps after a few too many beers, a giant inflatable ball scheme emerged with all the required nuts and bolts.
